For our final project we created an interview video, shooting the interview at school. My partner and I chose to shoot a video of Mrs. Behr's Principles of Engineering class working on their projects. We interviewed the teacher, and shot B-Roll of Mrs.Behr working with students. Then we edited the video in final cut pro. In final cut pro we made sequences of wide, medium, and tight shots. The video started with a natural sound, then transitioned into the interview, then sequence, then interview, then sequence, then interview, then ended with natural sound. We started the audio fading in and faded out the sound to end it. We added a title.
I felt this project went well for me and my partner. I did struggle a bit with writing the news briefs, but got better as the project went on. I also needed to improve on my speaking skills in front of the camera. The final newscast looked and sounded much better than the first time we practiced, as we improved.
I learned about how to take an interview and edit one in iMovie.Filming an interview involves many tasks. Finding an expert to provide information is essential to a good news story. A good interview shoot capture the natural sound in eye setting of your story. The interview should feel like a conversation. The interview should contain open-ended questions to allow the person being interviewed to give detailed information for the answer. The interviewer should try not to interrupt the person being interviewed, and make time for the interview, so the person does not feel rushed Editing in iMovie allowed me to add titles, transitions, and move around clips to create an edited project. In iMovie I was also allowed to move around sounds so that I can have a sound looping over several videos.I had to leave out some footage to create the final product. The process took me around two hours to complete. In total, I had around 3-4 minutes of footage, but I ended up with a video that lasted about a minute and a half.My greatest success was being able to find a visitor who was willing to give an interview without notice, and a part-time librarian also.My biggest challenge was trying to film an interview in a quiet space like a library.
I learned about the process of editing with iMovie. iMovie comes with a lot of editing features within the app. The app allows you to mix in different forms of media: sound, images, videos, when creating an iMovie project. iMovie also allows you to add transitions also.YOu can also mix in several iMovie projects together to create a new one.
I learned about how to give an interview with a camera. Remember that an interview is a conversation.Make time and try not to rush the interview. Focus on the speaker with your eyes. Take location into consideration. Ask open-ended questions like “Tell me about…”.Tell your interviewee to say their name and spell it, so you can get it for graphics later.Gather compelling sound bites to enhance the final product.
I learned how sound enhances a video. Recording natural sound, sounds that are made in the environment you are filming in can add character to a story. Even science can be a natural sound. It is important to get close to your natural sounds, so that you can hear it when you play it back on your device.
I learned about how to tell a story with a video. A video should have a beginning, middle, and end. A video should show what the people in the video are talking about. A video should have compelling soundbites. A good video may have some twists or reveals.
I learned about B-Roll, which is the video you use the capture the environment around your subject. B-Roll gives information like where the video was captured, what time, and details about the subject. I also learned tips on taking videos with iPad.Video should be shot in good lighting situations, and should be taken
I learned about the possibilities of mobile journalism. Mobile journalism allows the average person to communicate information to the Internet using a mobile device. There are apps available that can help people do this. There is also equipment to enhance the video, allowing people to film from different heights and angles. Although some information can be false, mobile journalism can provide people with unique images or video that you may not see on television or news sites.
I went with a unique approach in my Iam Video not including one picture of myself. For the most part the video, can give people an idea of me and my personality. However, I feel the video may have included some blurry pictures.
